An infant in Utah has died after ingesting heroin belonging to her parents.

Utah County police said the parents, 31-year-old Casey Cormani and 32-year-old Cassandra Richards, have been arrested for their foolishness which resulted in the death of their 1-year-old daughter, Penny Cormani.

According to the police, Richards called 911 after the child did not wake up from her nap. Paramedics took the child to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police officers who searched the couple’s home, found burned silver foil and straws, which are often signs that heroin has been smoked.

The parents claimed that the drug paraphernalia did not belong to them. However, the parents and the homeowners have a long history of drug use.

Both parents were arrested and charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child. They were booked into the Utah County Jail, and their bail was set at $25,000 each.
